Washi (Japanese Paper)

“Harinuki” is a technique where sheets of carefully drained washi are layered and bonded with meticulously kneaded bracken paste to form the base structure.“Ikkannbari” involves applying washi onto an already shaped base using lacquer paste. Both methods emphasize the soft texture of washi, preserving its gentle touch.Unlike “Kanshitsu” (dry lacquer), “Harinuki” results in slight distortions in form. These subtle irregularities have been revered as part of its aesthetic and passed down as a valued technique.
